Thesis Title: Sickled Relationships: Accounts of genetic responsibility amongst an online Nigerian population

Kate Hampshire

About

I recently concluded an MSc programme in Medical Anthropology at Durham University. My areas of interest include sickle cell disease, maternal and reproductive health and how they intersect with gender and rights. My dissertation explored the perception of risk, disease understanding and stigma attached to sickle cell carriers and sufferers.
My background prior to this was in Veterinary Medicine, a degree I received at the University of Ibadan, Nigeria. I practised for some years before I vied into program management for a bank and subsequently a nonprofit organisation whose program area was HIV/AIDS education and OVC welfare.

In my spare time, I write about social issues too outrageous to ignore and movie/book reviews at mak2chi.com.

I am interested in further research/collaborations on any of my core areas of interest.
