About
I am currently investigating the imagination's role in unifying the mind and body in Cartesian 'dualism'. Following Cottingham's observation that the imagination appears to be a mode of thought of a specific kind, I aim to establish its role in Descartes' mysterious union.
Otherwise I have been a tutor in the Department, teaching early modern philosophy, plus contemporary epistemology and philosophy of mind. I have also taught philosophy of religion and a course on relativism 'through the ages' (starting with Plato's 'Protagoras' and ending with Nagel's 'The View From Nowhere').
I also have been a pastoral tutor to 19 undergraduates of various disciplines as part of the college tutorial system.
