About
My main research interests are in Anglo-Saxon and Frankish history and archaeology, particularly concerning themes of conversion and religious identity, landscape perception and the transition from the late Roman to the early medieval period both in Britain and on the Continent.
I completed my PhD, 'Landscapes of Conversion in Eighth-Century Hessia: An Interdisciplinary Approach to the Anglo-Saxon Mission of St Boniface', at the University of York in 2008. It was an attempt to relate the rich historical sources to the archaeological, toponymical and topographical evidence, providing a closely contextualised and humanised account of an early medieval mission on the fringes of the Frankish kingdom. It was published as the book 'In the Shadow of Death: St Boniface and the Conversion of Hessia, 721-754' by Brepols in 2011.
